Heading off to work as others go to bed

Getting out of bed when people usually go to bed might be unusual behaviour for most of us.
But for Garden of Eden owner Paul Walters it’s something that happens three times a week.
Mr Walters wakes at 11.30pm and hits the road so he can arrive at the fruit markets in Melbourne by 2.30am every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
“We’re finished buying and loaded up by 6.30am in the morning and we are back in Colac by 8.30 or 9,” he said.
Mr Walters, who has been at Garden of Eden for eight years, said his job provided plenty of variety.
“I’m a truck driver, a forklift driver, buyer and seller of fruit and vegetables, manager and accountant,” he said.
Mr Walter said the most satisfying part of his job was having control over what happens.
“I got sick of my last job and I’m in control and have influence over everyday things,” he said
The Garden of Eden employs 29 people in its Colac and Apollo Bay stores and Mr Walters said employing staff was one of the best parts of the job.
