Victory would guarantee place in finals
By Rachel Rodger • Aug 15th, 2008 • Category: Football, SportColac’s finals prospects will brighten on two fronts if the Tigers cross tomorrow’s hurdle against Grovedale.
A win would all but guarantee the Tigers a top-three place and assure a double chance in the Geelong Football League finals.
But the assurance of an extra week would be an added bonus for the club, with injured captain Jake Carmody facing a race against the clock to return from a broken bone in a wrist.
Colac coach John Pekin said he was excited to see Carmody back training with the team but was not pinning his hopes on the star forward’s return
“We’ll give him every chance to play. If he can prove himself we’ll consider him,” Pekin said.
“But there’s still a very small chance of him playing at best,” he said.
The fourth-placed Tigers defeated Grovedale, seventh, by 37 points earlier this year but Pekin said he was wary of the match being a danger game, despite playing at home on Colac’s Central Reserve.
“Given they’re no chance at making finals I’d expect them to come out hard because they’ve got nothing to lose,” he said.
