A curator at Colac’s Central Reserve has suggested football officials play early finals elsewhere to ensure the ground is in top shape for September’s grand final.
Groundsman Rob Oborne suggested moving the first two weeks of finals to give the oval time to recover from wet weather and a vandal attack.
Vandals damaged the already boggy Central Reserve when they attempted to drive across the centre square at the weekend.
Oborne said he believed the vandals became bogged as they attempted to cross the weather-affected middle and had left the centre in a precarious state.
“My own personal opinion is that they shouldn’t play there. It wouldn’t be much of a spectacle later in the finals series, especially if you got some rain there during the next month,” Oborne said.
