Trainer enjoys victory
By Matt Murnane • May 6th, 2009 • Category: SportColac horse trainer Daryl Cannon received a timely surprise at Stawell this week.
Cannon’s latest acquisition No Push Over exceeded its new trainer’s expectations by breaking its maiden in a $12,000 maiden plate on Monday.
The slightly built mare had mis-fired in five starts with her previous trainer but came good in her first race under Cannon’s guidance, despite being a $9-outsider.
Cannon admitted he got “a bit of a surprise” watching his new four-year-old bolt to the front after settling midfield throughout the 1100-metre journey.
“She’s probably a little forward of what I had originally thought she was,” Cannon said.
