Cobden staged a remarkable comeback to snatch a draw against Winchelsea at the weekend.
Trailing by 25 shots at lunch, Cobden stormed back into the Corangamite Bowling Association contest with a dominant second-half performance.
Cobden skipper Bazil Hammond leveled scores 92-all with the final bowl of the day.
Hammond put his team’s rise from the ashes into context when he said “we got out of jail”.
After 100 ends nothing could separate the two teams and they walked away from the enthralling contest at Winchelsea with nine points each.
But while the spoils were shared, Cobden players celebrated as if they had won the premiership while their Winchelsea counterparts rued what could have been.
Cobden’s Cliff Cobbledick defeated Winchelsea’s David Stephenson, 26-20, Damian Riches defeated Evan Partridge, 33-12, Bazil Hammond lost to David Littler, 15-27, and Peter Inglis lost to Stuart Williams, 18-33.
