Defence back on track

City One has put its Colac district bowls premiership defence back on track with a thrilling two-shot victory over Camperdown Golf.
The Corangamite Bowling Association grand final re-match at Golf promised much but delivered even more and after 100 ends it was City One which prevailed, 91-89.
To the victors went the spoils but City One would be happier with the much-needed form reversal that has reaffirmed the club as a flag contender.
Epitomising the importance of the contest is the fact City One now sits second while Golf languishes in sixth after the two sides entered the clash fourth and fifth.
City One skipper Stuart Trigg said his side led by one shot with one end, on Ken Hanson’s rink, left to play.
“Steven O’Dowd put on his second, he put on a resting toucher and it stayed there to the end,” Trigg said.
“They had a couple of goes and missed,” he said.
It was a fitting conclusion to an epic second half of the day which Golf stormed home from 15 shots down at lunch.
Aggressive but calculated skipper Craig Skene led Golf’s revival, with his rink turning a lunchtime deficit into a 42-15 win
over Neil Welsh.
But Skene’s heroics went unrewarded as City One’s Trigg, David Neal and Hanson all won.
