Ladder leaders are in the clear

Undefeated Warrion has moved a game clear on top of Division One after emphatically over-running Colac West at the weekend.Chasing West’s 115, the Panthers cruised to their fourth victory this season with top-order batsmen Darren Murrell, Pat Morrissy, Lachy Inglis and Xavier Prime all making runs.
Warrion passed the total three wickets down and always looked in control, finishing at 8-171 despite a still-slow Western Oval outfield on Saturday.
Cavalier opener Murrell blazed 30 of his team’s first 40 runs before getting out, leaving partner Morrissy, 36, and Inglis, 43, to build a match-winning 63-run stand.
Prime then came in with just 12 runs required for victory, and kept his season average moving in the right direction with a classy 29 as Warrion reached the total with more than 10 overs to spare.
The win and Irrewarra’s upset loss to Apollo Bay puts Warrion a full game plus bonus points clear of the Division One powerhouse.
And West captain Dale Menzies, who has seen his team go down to both Warrion and Irrewarra, said the ladder picture was correct.
“With its full side in, Irrewarra would probably be about even with Warrion but at the moment you would have to say Warrion are ahead,” Menzies said post-game.
