City Gold’s back-to-back premiership campaign is intact after a thrilling 20-shot victory against nearest rival Colac Pink yesterday.
Nothing could separate Colac and district women’s bowls Division One premier and Pink at lunch but Gold had the upper hand after lunch, winning two rinks to one, 62-42.
City Gold skipper Rebecca McMahon said she expected Pink to come out firing.
“I don’t think any of us are used to the hot weather but I don’t think that affected anything,” McMahon said.
“Our girls just seemed to improve after lunch,” she said.
“Leanne Kelly’s rink went down by two shots, Val Hutchinson’s rink won by seven and my rink won by 15.
“The girls played really well after lunch and everyone did their work.”
McMahon brushed aside the premiership favourite tag.
“It’s very early in the season yet and until you play everyone you just can’t judge,” she said.
“The game was a good hit out to see where we are at.”
In other games, Winchelsea and Colac Lemon cancelled their match due to the hot weather, Central Blue defeated interclub rival Mauve, two rinks to one, and City Orange defeated Colac Green by 17 shots.
