Colac has left nothing to chance in preparation for tomorrow’s crucial lawn bowling clash with Camperdown Golf.
Colac players made the journey to Camperdown as many times as they could this week to acquaint themselves with the Golf greens in a bid to gain an edge for the all-important battle.
Colac’s Brian Russell said the extra preparation was important with a spot in the Corangamite Bowling Association Division One’s top four on offer for the winner.
“It’s a practice that’s happening more and more, you’ve got different types of synthetics and they all behave differently,” Russell said.
“We haven’t had a look at their green all year so for that reason we’ve endeavoured to have as many games on there as possible,” he said.
The match promises to be a high-quality contest with Camperdown Golf also promising to dig deep.
The Golf will persist with a revamped line-up which defeated Winchelsea last round, confident it has the right combinations to trouble any finalist and even press for a top-two spot.
New skippers Glenn Winsall and Matthew Brewer will remain at the helm with Algie White unavailable and Barry Hirth stepping down to third.
Golf’s Ross Fleming said there was an issue with compatibility among his side but it had ironed out its problems and was on the rise at the right time of the season.
“We can still improve a hell of a lot but I think we’re on the way up and most players are pretty happy with how they’re performing now,” he said.
“There’s probably just got to be a few more players that strike a bit of form and I think we’ll be hard to beat.”
Like Golf, Colac is also confident its best is starting to show.
And Brian Russell is confident there will be no more slack performances like those that marred the team’s first half of the year.
“It was a big plus winning last week and there are signs there now, although we dropped off towards the end of the game, the first half was probably the best bowls the team has played all year,” he said.
Colac will be without third player Grant Gillespie who is on holidays, paving the way for Shane Fitzsimons, who will lead for Tim Hassett.

NEW: Camperdown Golf’s Glenn Winsall has a big job tomorrow against Colac in his second game as skipper.
